Winter nears its ends! The annual madness of Daylight Saving Time returns, robbing us each of one hour of sleep in exchange for 238 hours of additional evening daylight over the months ahead.

So sometime between watching basketball tournaments, bringing the grill out of storage, planning your garden or breaking in a new baseball glove, take a moment to move the small hand on your clocks forward one notch and celebrate the extra hour of sun.

And while you're changing your clocks, remember to check your smoke detector batteries. One third of all smoke detectors have dead, near dead or disconnected batteries in them doubling occupants' chances of perishing in a home fire. You can also ensure that Daylight Savings Time also saves energy by switching from incandescent light bulbs to compact fluorescent bulbs.

If you are religious, it can have other meanings too. Take a few minutes to think what the "spirit of the season" means to you... to your family.

Now - imagine a Christmas without those things. Imagine not psyching yourself up to brave the crowds at the mall. Imagine not having to worry about the credit card bill in January... or whether someone will like your gift.
