MICA’s Environmental Design Department seeks the promotion of an interdisciplinary approach to design that integrates artistic imagination and critical thinking with design strategies and seeks the re-evaluation of traditional design solutions and fabrication techniques. Students are engaged in a curriculum that delivers a core set of skills and knowledge but that also facilitates their developing expertise in other fields of art. Their artistic abilities and design skills are directed towards a focus in areas of social engagement and towards re-imaging the way we build our environment from it’s smallest to its most large parts.

The Shondes
The Shondes (pronounced Shahn-duhs) are a four-piece indie rock group based out of the western Brooklyn neighborhood of Park Slope. They rock a unique sound that combines ‘90s queercore and riot grrl power with traditional Jewish music and dramatic, rich vocals. It's the sound of distortion, melody, feminism and socio-political concerns being mixed and pumped passionately out of cranked up amps, and it earned the group comparisons to acts like Sleater-Kinney.
