Vernonia's First Friday season begins! From May 1st through October 2nd, the first Friday every month will celebrate community in Vernonia with merchant specials and various community and education events. The opening events are held in Hawkins Park and in the Scout Cabin in the park. Live music with Strings on Fire. Other events include an old-fashioned cake walk, the OSU Master Gardeners' Info Table, May Baskets crafts table and Bring a Book/Take a Book box. Scout Cabin opens at 5:00PM, Maypole Dance starts at 6:00PM. Rain or shine. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light The Night Walk is the nation's night to pay tribute and bring hope to people battling cancer. Participants walk along a two or three-mile route, carrying lighted balloons: white for survivors, red for supporters and gold in memory. Last year the Walk raised $390,000 in Oregon.
