FAQ

January 16th, 2006 by Julie

I am having issues adding events to the calendar. What’s up?

First, please read our small help page. 30 Boxes can’t read your mind, so try to imitate the examples. Keep your event title short and put your details in parenthesis as a note.

My calendar disappeared, what do I do?

First, log out and then log back in. You can try to clear your browser cache and restart your browser. If that doesn’t work, you may have entered an event with some odd data (like a URL string) which may be causing a javascript error when trying to display your calendar. You can visit our mobile version (works in any web browser) and delete any suspicious entries from there. If that doesn’t work, post a plea in our help forum!

How does privacy work on 30 Boxes?

When you join 30 Boxes, at first you are the only one with access to your events. When you add a buddy (or when someone else adds you as a buddy), you have options to share your calendar with that person. You have the ability to:

  • not share anything
  • share a subset of events that have a common tag like “work”
  • or share everything

There is an additional flag on events called “private” which ensures that an event will never be shared, event if you are sharing “everything” with another person.

How do repeating events work?

When you create an event, you can type:

repeat weekly, monthly repeat yearly.

For weekly repeating you can use “every Monday”

For monthly repeats, the event will appear every month, on the same date. If the month does not contain the date, the event will appear last day of the month. For example, if you schedule an event for Jan 31 and repeat it monthly, it will appear on Jan 31, Feb 28 (or 29), Mar 31, Apr 30, etc.

Yearly repeating events appear on the same date every year. These are great for birthdays, anniversaries, etc.

You can use the “advanced entry” form to create complex repeats, such as every other M W F, or the second Wednesday of the month, etc.

To specify an end to the repeating use the “through” key word. For example: Math 101 every Monday 10am repeat weekly through 5/30/06

Send an invitation to a buddy:

+buddy@example.com

Tag Important, Special

* : Adding a * to your entry will add a yellow star next to the title and move it to the top of your day list

Tags

You can add a tag to your event by including “tag name” in your One Box entry.

For example: Project Greenlight april 10 tag work

You can also add multiple tags to a single event.

For example: running workout wed 5pm tag personal tag sports

Color

There are two ways to color events. Use the “View” menu to change the color of all events with a given tag or for one of your buddies. To color a single event, the following colors can be used as a tag, for example add “tag blue” to an event to make it blue. Some colors are more useful then others.

navy
blue
maroon
purple
green
red
teal
magenta
olive
lime
orange
aqua
yellow

Maps and Hyperlinks

Anything you put in brackets [ ] will generate a link to a Google Map for that address. Any hyperlink will be linked as “more info” in your event notes. Examples:

How do I print my calendar?

Each “Day View” and “Week View” has a Print button that will give you a listing of that day and the next.

There is also an option to print the Day, Week, or Month in the View menu (near top left corner).
