Flash Buddy Cards from 30 Boxes = Bling!May 17th, 2007 by Narendra |
Now more than ever, what you do online equals who you are. At 30 Boxes, we are making this identity aggregation and lifestreaming easy and fun. A while ago we previewed our Buddy Cards concept with a slick WordPress plugin and today we are announcing the release of Flash Buddy Cards.
Think of them as dynamic widgets that are broadcasting all of the things you are doing online like MySpace, Facebook, Flickr, blogging, bookmarking links, twittering, you name it. Of course, 30 Boxes is all about time (and time management) so Events are a core component of the widget and we have made it super customizable. You can share all or some (limiting by tag) of your 30 Boxes calendar. You can add Web Calendars (like your Google Calendar) and use that for your events. Or you can add sites like Yahoo Upcoming or SonicLiving to your account and broadcast the “public” events you are attending.
We have two sizes (and 4 colors) with detailed customization soon to be available for hackers. Grab your codes and post your Buddy Card in the sidebar of your blog or on MySpace, Bebo, et. al. For sites and some software (like WordPress) that is fickle with flash, we also have html versions of a sidebar badge.
We might even have some t-shirts around for you superconnectors who put up your Buddy Card and let us know.
Codes and previews are available in a bunch of places: Share menu; or Settings > Web Stuff (where you can slice and dice events); and finally from a link on your Buddy Page which gives you a “public” Buddy Card.
We’ll be improving them behind the scenes too and you won’t need to replace them!
Grab your Buddy Card up today!
And a hat tip to Jack and Ahmed at Screamstream for flash development.

Nice work all of you, you continue to make 30boxes the best web app available.
I didn’t know about the wordpress plugin and just added it, it’s so cool!
also - the new badges look great, is there any way now (or in the future) to make the sizes customizable so they fit nice and snug within our sidebars?
Keep up the great work.

Love it! myspac.com/jrcooper! I am going to play with to try and find a cool way to get it on my Tumblr blog. I’ll show it off if it happens.

I replaced my old shared cal with the new Flash Buddy Card. I like it. I’m looking forward to seeing a more customizable version in the near future!
I used the sidebar version on http://osolage.typepad.com/.
I used the wide format version on MySpace. http://www.myspace.com/osolage

I have a question, maybe I am a complete idiot but I can’t figure out how to post this on my facebook. Where do I put it? I tried in the personal section but it just comes up as raw code.

Wess, sorry! You can’t post it in facebook :-(
We plan on having more integration with them in the near future.

Two things:
1) I notice that the wide format version of the new Flash Buddy Card has a section that says “find me on flickr, typepad, myspace, 43things,”. It doesn’t show Twitter or Clipmarks, though. I’m not sure if that’s a limitation of only showing one line or if the Flash component only shows x amount of places. Either way, I think it would be really cool if it could show the list of all of my web stuff.
2) For some reason, the web stuff feature can’t read my GameSpot blog’s RSS feed. If you can tell me why, I can bring it up to GameSpot. Or feel free to work it out and then PLEASE let me know when it’s working. :-)
