Drag to Trash

April 18th, 2007 by Narendra

A trifle but perhaps useful for some folks.  From the main view and week view you may now drag events onto a trash icon (visible while dragging at the bottom left!) to delete them.  It’s quick, easy, and gratifying.

We are considering putting up a time line to let you change the start time…

In case you had never tried, you can also right click (or CTRL click on Mac) on events in the main view to edit or delete them.

Nice! Can you guys also implement dragging between days in the week view? It’s more intuitive to drag to the big day box to the right, rather than the little day boxes at bottom.

Also, what kind of timeline are you guys thinking about?

    Just got my t-shirt. It’s awesome. :)

Let me suggest against the drag-to-change-time approach; that breaks the drag and drop metaphor pretty badly.

I *would* like to see, as I mentioned in the fora, a bin with the to-do’s in it, back and forth to which items could be dragged from the calendar.

When I drag an event to the trash, I don’t want to see a confirmation dialog. An undo option would be nice if it’s feasible, but really, when I’m ready to delete an event, I’m ready.

Here’s a vote for drag to change time… as far as design…

I suggest something like onDrag, pop up a horizontal (or maybe vertical) bar somewhere and on it is a timeline from midnight to midnight of the day of which the event is on. The current time could be signified by a thick bolded bar (wider if it spans time) and dragging the event to a new time would move it there. OnMouseRelease, the event would appear on the bar at the new time at which point you could grab either edge of the event marker to change the duration.

    Just a thought.

I think I change times as much as I change days.

Today’s wish: IntelliSense-style Calendar (not Code) Complete.

    The fewer keystrokes, the better…
