News, Notes, and AttendioFebruary 20th, 2007 by Narendra |
We need to give a shout out to a company that recently launched at the DEMO conference, called Attendio. They are aggregating events and event calendars and are currently focused on the Bay Area. What makes them novel is that they are creating a class of filters called VIP Recommenders that “provide an insider’s view” toward current local events. They have done a nice job integrating 30 Boxes so that you can quickly add feeds and events to your 30B calendar.
We definitely try to over-communicate between the blog, forum, and twitter, but if you are interested in a more detailed discussion of our first year, Brian Oberkirch was kind enough to have me on his podcast recently. Available here.
You may have noticed some small design tweaks! We are continuing to clean some stuff up. First, we have added some slick icons to the main view. Although there are just three of us, we do sometimes enlist some help. A long overdue thank you is due to Jeff Boissier who is a friend and co-worker who spent several years as a superb designer with Webshots and then CNET Networks. Jeff helped us refine a bunch of 30B stuff early on and still helps out creating a slick button or two.
We have also revamped the blog and forum headers following a marketing campaign we are evolving that is focused on the college and post-college crowd. Two of the designs are used in our collector’s edition newly pressed t-shirts (more details later). The designs were done by another talented artist named Dan Youmans.
Also, on the blog, we have added “Outside The Box” to the sidebar which is actually a feed from my del.icio.us bookmarks tagged 30boxes. I am trying to highlight stuff that is written about (or is relevant to) 30B and encourage you to visit those links and engage any discussions!
That’s all for now. Keep voting for 30B at SXSW — big link in the nav!

Hey,
If you guys want to play nice with microformats and Operator-style integration, your onebox URL — http: //30boxes.com/add.php?e=[urlencoded one box] — should parse hCal standard timestamps.
For example, meetup.com doesn’t integrate with 30boxes, but if we want to use microformats, we’d get a url like this:
http://30boxes.com/add.php?e=South+Bay+Ruby+on+Rails+%28San+Jose%2C+CA%29+-+Meetup.com+on+20070313T020000Z
The onebox ignores the timezone, it seems. Boo :)

I hpe you reconsider your tag line. It sounds defeatist.
Other options include:
30boxes.com get in get out
30boxes.com life aggregated
30boxes.com digital physical you
30boxes.com one box for the meta-life
Enjoy!=)
