On The Sly - Drag and DropFebruary 12th, 2007 by Narendra |
We have quietly added some a couple of important items recently.
First, after enduring a lot of vocal demands to improve, we made a fairly complete pass at repeating events that now satisfy both the power and “particular” users! We have one more pass coming that will involve a way to add a “complex” set of linked events.
Second, we went ahead (again after much foot-dragging) and added the sexy (if not super useful) ability to drag events you have created around in the 30B view. We hope to implement a time slider of some sort on the day view to make time changing a breeze as well.
30 Boxes!

the drag and drop facility is great, but what I’d like even more is the ability to drag and drop within a day (when a meeting time gets changed, for example). of course for this I’d need the time slider you’re referring to

Love the drag and drop!!! Back in October when I was looking at calendars, I almost didn’t sign-up with 30 boxes because of the lack of drag and drop. I’m so glad that didn’t stop me though, because 30 boxes is without a doubt the best calendar on the internet. And now with drag and drop, I don’t have a single reservation about using the system.
One thing I’d love to see (and I’m not sure how hard this would be to implement) is the ability to click on a single event and jump right into the editor for that event. Conversely if I wanted to see a whole day’s list of events, I would click on the particular date or in the unused space of a specific date.

Yay, thanks for adding in all the complex repeats!
I have no problems staying with 30B as my calendar now!

@Jonathan — you can right click on any event and select “Edit Event.” sounds like what you’re looking for. if your browser’s right-click menu comes up instead, search around the forums for the fix (depends on your browser).
@Narendra — i know you guys think d&d is more sexy than useful, but it really is slick! it’s not something i’ll use every day, but it’s very nice for those few times i need to postpone a meeting or travel plans, etc.
excellent updates!

I really like the added functionality with drag & drop, but would find it even more useful if there was ctrl-drag & drop, which copies, rather than moves an event to a new date.

Thanks for the complex repeatness.
Great stuff!

Yay! Finally, drag and drop! You are mistaken about it not being super useful. Being a procrastinator, I’m always moving events around, and your not having it kept me from using 30 Boxes until now. I’m now moving my calendar over. Thanks!

These are two awesome additions! I’m finally able to properly add my class schedules. And yes, dragging and dropping is good when events suddenly get rescheduled… much faster than manually editing the event.
