30B Presence: What Are You Doing?December 20th, 2006 by Narendra |
In the run up to the Holidays we have been trying to sneak in some more stuff. You may have noticed the little “status” prompt in the bottom left of your 30 Boxes. It is a quick place for you to answer the question, “what are you doing?” and then begin to broadcast it!
Twitter is doing an exceptional job of bringing this to your mobile phone and IM clients and letting you build and stay in touch with a bunch of people. We have a lot of twitter integration planned in the future but for starters you can now add your twitter id to your Web Stuff. Twitters won’t show up on your calendar but they will appear on your public Buddy Page. They will also be shown as your status unless you have updated your 30 Boxes status later than your last twitter (got that?!)
Because we only grab twitter data a couple of times a day, it doesn’t happen in real time. If you are obsessed with it, be patient as we are working on a way to make it real time. We’ll also trigger notifications (via supermail — which we still haven’t announced) from your Buddies status updates (from Twitter and 30 Boxes).
Down the road, we should have some AIM integration and if they would open up a bit more: facebook and dodgeball.
Other items of note: we have simplified our top left nav with some snazzy graphics that have rollover states. For now you have Calendar, To Do, and Messages. The 30B logo is now linked to our blog. We will have Buddy Updates coming soon to that area and that’s it!
We’ve added a section called “Blurb” that you can edit in Settings > Personal as a short bio that also appears on your public Buddy Page.
Also, under the View menu, we now highlight colored Buddies with that color and if you click a Buddy name it gives you the following options: toggle events, color Buddy, visit Buddy Page.
Finally, hat tip to 30B user Jerry who had this thoughtful post recently.

30 Boxes!

I love the updates! But can we get a link back to the webtop in the header? It’s made it much harder (impossible actually) to toggle between the webtop and the brilliant calendar.
Great work!

…. Whoops. I finally found the link to the webtop. Under the view. That’s probably a good enough place ;)

Hey Glen,
At some point we are going to cookie your “state” so that if you close or leave 30B it will remember where you were (e.g. Webtop, to do list open)…

Great idea.
Is there going to be any way that our Meebo connection in the webtop won’t get closed when we refresh the calendar?

Hey I installed/activated Blog Timeline plugin from http://30boxes.com/external/downloadBlogTimeline.php but what to do next?
No instructions are given on your website but anyway, I got them from the link - View Blog Timeline on your posts. It would be better if you provide configuration instructions also.
