Built For Speed

December 12th, 2006 by Narendra

Nick spent last weekend rethinking our page loads and we have implemented some dramatic results.  In some typical pages we are seeing page size cut in half and page creation time at 1/5 the original!

This is big news because it means that 30 Boxes continues to improve as the fastest and snappiest app out there.  We will continue to revisit performance issues regularly.

A bunch of additional announcements forthcoming as well!

Oooh, I see Supermail in my Boxes. :) Looks very cool — I’ll play with it to see if I can figure it out.

Hey, in the interest of managing personal info, are you all looking to get more robust contact management into 30Boxes? I’d love for it to be my repository for phone numbers and address lists — especially if I can share them with friends and family.

I know there’s a fine public/private line to draw there in terms of privacy, but if anyone can figure it out, I’m sure you guys can!

Yea I tried to make an appointment on Google cal the other day and almost gave up do to how long it took to load and set the date. Speed really cant be a feature bullet point but it sure keeps me coming back.
On the contact thing. Maybe we can have buddies but just keep the “magical 12ish” on top and keep the others in the background. If we get contacts ,then m.30boxes.com would be a killer app!

I played with it. Very Facebook in that it’s like the news feed — I like it.

Yeah, I’d love to know more about the mysterious “Address Book” of which you speak in the interface…

The address book is the sum of Buddies and Others. We will be working to surface the light contact info for both of them and it should make its way to mobile after the desktop.

Sweet, thanks Narendra. That will really come in handy.

Looking forward to finding out more details about Supermail and the “online status” link in the lower left soon. :)
