The Need For SpeedOctober 31st, 2006 by Narendra |
OK, enough of the philosphical blog posts. Here is something tangible. We went back and finally made adding and editing of calendar events ajaxy.
What does this mean?
Well, technically it means the page doesn’t refresh.
But what it really means is a significantly speedier experience for you. In some limited head-to-head tests we have found that the improvement is between 2 and 5 times faster. It depends a bit on how many buddies (and buddy events) you have because all that data no longer has to reload.
The second big improvement is that your webtop isn’t refreshed. This is great because open applications like Meebo aren’t reset!
Please let us know if you see anything odd.
30 Boxes!

Oooh, thanks Narendra. Does this mean we’re closer to drag-and-drop rescheduling? :)

We aren’t promising that just yet. Still a lot of things to do to get to v1.0!

Really nice one, I’ve been pining for this and I must say the absence of AJAX where it’s now in place has been one of the things that have made showing 30 Boxes to people hard; it’s put a few people off adapting it, but now they’ll come crawling back. Thanks!

And how close are we to recurring appointments (2nd Wednesday every month, etc)? Still a glaring omission!!

Ken, we added a bunch more recurring options not too long ago and you can expect that others will trickle in from here on. But as a stickler for precision, is “glaring omission!!” really how to describe this situation? ;-)
