30Boxes As Social Supernet

30Boxes as the Social Supernet

Wouldn’t it be great if social networks got along! After spending the last few months impoving on our array of web apps designed to make your life a little more organized and easy to track, we are slowly starting to unveil the social network that is being created. We have taken to dubbing it a “supernet” because it actually incorporates relationships across many networks.

That’s right, if you have a look at the photo (left) you’ll see that we have started to surface buddies that have profiles within 30Boxes but are tied to you via another network like flickr or MySpace.

We have certainly had a lot of buzz about our calendar (and recently with webtop) but 30Boxes is also very much about identity. Jeff Clavier wrote about this concept very early on and I thought we should let people in on aspects of our strategy.

One of the product design goals with 30Boxes is the concept of appearing “magical”–meaning that if we can make the personalization process or a web application easier, we do. Case in point is our approach to identity. If we can piece together information about you without your help we will (using the open web or using your information provided by buddies.) Ultimately, of course, you control your profile.

We want 30Boxes to be a place where you can go to know what is going on in your world and what is going on with your friends. People do lots of things online and we are striving to help bridge that information. If you have seen the Buddy Updates on webtop, you know it is an addictive and fun way to track your friends. The next step is to set it free. Our Yahoo! Messenger plug-in does that and it will soon be able to do look ups on Yahoo! contacts who are not users of 30Boxes. We are also working on code for wordpress that will allow profile information to load on demand on blogs accross the web.

The bigger 30Boxes gets the more powerful this all becomes.

Update: Jeff Jarvis discusses the power of networks.  On point.

30 Boxes, the most interesting, innovative, life-changing calendar ever!

That seems like a bold statement, huh? But I have been so won-over since the release of the public beta, that one of the reasons I got this wordpress.com blog in the first place, is simple: 30 Boxes has made me a more educated consumer, a more organiz…
