Context Menus (Right Click) Enhancements and More!

April 19th, 2006 by Narendra

Latest Update - OK, we are pretty sure the issue has been resolved. Please let us know if you have any problems :-)

Update - Sorry, there was a bug in this code, and we’ve temporarily pulled this feature while we work on it.

We just finished making some modifications that improve some usability issues.

First, we are rolling out context menus that are available from a “right click” (or ctrl click on Mac). On the main view, if you right click on one of your events you can edit or delete it. If you right click on a buddy’s event, you can hide all of that buddy’s events or view the buddy page.

Second, as you add buddies, checking the boxes becomes a bit of a pain so we have added 2 options: “show all” and “show just me” which are also available from two new accesskeys. j shows all buddy events and m shows just yours. There is an issues with IE currently where those accesskeys only work when the View menu is visible. Anyone with thoughts on a work around, let us know.

We hope to get the ESC key working soon to dismiss popup windows.

does the context menu have stylesheet associations?

[Narendra: it does in the javascript. I am not sure we can break it out.  If you have a some suggestions on a perferred color/style, please post some samples in the forum!]

ie doesn’t work with display: none accesskeys.. but you could add some blank links some where on the page like … those will work as long as they arent inside a hidden element

Do you have some advice on how to use this feature? On my browsers (Firefox 1.5.0.2 on Mac and XP) the normal right-click context menu obscures your custom menu. Frustratingly, getting that to go away usually involves clicking elsewhere on the page — which in 30boxes brings up the daily event viewer. Do you know of a setting that will disable the standard menu?

Hmm, the right click menu is hidden by the Firefox right-click menu…is it just me being slow?

The context menu is only active if you are right-clicking on an event or buddy event (no invitations). If this is still an issue (we tested on FF 1.0 and 1.5), please start a thread in the forum and we’ll figure it out :-)

Yep, am clicking on an event and it’s still obscured…I can see the edges of it under the FF menu. Will start a forum post…
