30 Boxes Supports Microformats - hcard and hcal

March 22nd, 2006 by Narendra

Thanks to some encouragement from Chris Messina of Flock, we have added support for microformats within 30 Boxes. Microformats are “a set of simple, open data formats built upon existing and widely adopted standards.” In our case, we are using xhtml to markup contact and calendar data so that it can be used and transformed by other applications. There is a slick Firefox extension called Tails which lets you detect any microformats present on a web page (including those written by javascript like 30 Boxes HTML Badges.)

If you are curious (we know this is pretty arcane, but trust us, it is a good thing!), you’ll find an hcard link in My Settings > Sharing. Also, within the html code on badges and web page views of your calendar, there are markups for the hcal standard.

Of course, you could also mention Flocktails for your readers using Flock… :)

    Dear developers:

A friend of mine has found a bug in 30 boxes. Maybe you`ll find his discovery useful. Here it goes:

When you read 30 boxes’ ical subscription from Netvibes, periodic repetitive entries show the date, but miss the title.

We’re loving 30 boxes. periodical repetitive entries. Congratulations!
