New feature roundupFebruary 14th, 2006 by Nick |
It’s been a week since our public beta launch, and wow, a great response! First off, thanks to everyone who has submitted ideas, questions, and bugs to the forum. We haven’t been able to respond to every one, but we were able to fix many problems and even get out some of the requested features. Here’s a laundry list of the major items:
- RSS feeds. Add you calendar to any news reader. Paticularly useful if you use a news reader or My Yahoo as your home page (or any similar site that lets you add RSS content) - put your calendar directly on your start page!
- Badges. Add a tiny snippet of HTML to your web site, and add your calendar to any page/site that you maintain.
- Public Web Pages. Every user has a public “buddy page” which shows your public information (no email or contact info). You also have customizable Calendar View Pages, which you can choose to share with people.
- All Sharing/Syndication options (RSS, Badges, Public Web Pages, iCal subscriptions, ICS files, and CSV files) can be customized. For example, you can create a calendar “View” of events tagged “travel” and then share just that calendar. Create a View of events tagged “class” and share that with your parents. Create another View tagged “parties”, choose to include private events, and then distribute that link to all your party pals (skip the parents).
- You can start your week on any day. Sunday is the norm in the US; Monday is common elsewhere.
- Times can be displayed in 12 or 24 hour format.
- Repeating events can have end dates. For example: “poker every thursday through 4/15″
- The One Box input parser got a LOT better. Thanks to eveyone who submitted their troublesome events!
Some little things: Names can have hyphens and spaces. Weather forecasts got more reliable. The pages load about 50% faster than they did when we launched. Many many little bugs were fixed.
Hope you enjoy! We’ve got a lot more cool stuff in the works. Tell your friends!

Glad to see the end-dates added. Will be estatic when ya get the ‘repeat first monday of every month’ coded up. Or give us an API and we’ll code it for you….
Keep up the good work.

Love it! Using it already…
One feature I would like to suggest — I couldn’t post a ‘new topic’ on the suggested features bulletin board, and I didn’t see any emails, so I’m writing it here — is a ‘to do’ notepad that resides somewhere on the side. It could be week-based, or not time-based at all.
Thanks again for a terrific product!
